Yes I can Read Program
At United Way TCI, our number one focus over the next five years is literacy. Through our “Yes I Can Read” program and a range of community reading events, we’ve already touched the lives of over 500 children—but we know the journey has just begun.
The future of the Turks and Caicos Islands is bright, yet there’s much more to do. We need the full support of our partners, local communities and all who love these islands to tackle one of our most urgent issues: reading proficiency.
Reading matters. A child’s ability to read by the end of 3rd grade can change the trajectory of their life. This is the moment they shift from learning to read, to reading to learn. Without this skill, they struggle to keep up in subjects like Math and Science and risk falling behind permanently.
Right now, we have 3rd graders reading at kindergarten level. That’s why we’re asking for your help.
“Yes I Can Read” – Our Reading Intervention Program
This after-school initiative provides one-on-one tutoring to 50 students each year. At $360 per month per child, our annual program budget stands at $216,000.
Your support can help us deliver the tools, guidance and encouragement these children need to reach their full potential—and build a future generation of bold, intelligent and fearless leaders.
Let’s rewrite the story of literacy in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Together, we can ensure that every child learns to read—and reads to succeed.
